20/20 SOV Awards 2021
Cynthia D. Brown Scholarships

20/20 Sisters of Vision congratulates the recipients of its 2021 Cynthia D. Brown Scholarship. The two $500 education scholarships were awarded to Jasmine Mason, graduating high school senior recipient, and Morgan Rogers, college student recipient.

Jasmine is a recent graduate of Durham School of the Arts in Durham.  She will attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the fall, majoring in Elementary Education.  She was active in the arts program at her high school, and youth programs at her church and was a volunteer at the Durham Public Library.  She says seeing a woman of color as the Vice President of the United States and watching the inauguration were the most empowering things she has seen thus far.  “It is good to know that as a minority woman I can do anything,” she added.  “We all have our individual lives to live, but knowing that we don’t have to do everything on our own and that we will be uplifted and encouraged by others are very empowering.”

Morgan is a sophomore at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science.  She is a member and leader in many campus-based student organizations including A.S.C.E.N.D. (Aspire, Serve, Empower and Network Daily), the Pre-Veterinary Medical Association, and Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences.

Her professional goal is to be a veterinarian.   She says that she hopes to inspire other young black females to become doctors and specialize in veterinary medicine.  Morgan also stated, “In life, I have always learned in order to be the best, you have to give 110 percent.”

When her college plans changed due to a sports injury, she said, “ This taught me that in order to overcome temporary setbacks, I needed to give more than what I thought was my best effort.  As a result, I was able to attend the college of my dreams on a full academic scholarship.”  Morgan concluded that reaching for more will only lead to achievements and the Cynthia D. Brown Scholarship will help towards achieving her career goals.
